2003 Horse - "Beadelia"
Artwork Description: An ancient bead-making technique surfaces in the work of local artist Nicole Mawby, who uses the art of lampworking to create beautiful, round glass beads. She recently mastered the technique of torching glass to form one-of-a-kind beads, which she incorporates into many of her jewelry pieces. She spent more than 20 hours affixing thousands of glass beads to the surface of the colt, which glimmers with the tiny glass creations. Her father, Dominic Visconsi, Sr., sponsored the colt.
