As a watercolor artist, Margaret Otley loves color and achieving the effect of movement. She does this by creating multiple layers of color planes using watercolor paint and prisma pencil. This abstract technique creates a feeling of movement through space on a two-dimensional suface.

Color flows over the contours of the horse, down onto the rockers and base as if in motion.

Margaret Otley is a watercolor artist. She has reinterpreted this style in three-dimensional form several times. On one painting she incorporated paper sculpture in an teempt to lift the color and movement off the surface, for the eyes, much like music is transformed from paper for the ears. In another piece, she used layers of painted paper terraced inside a box.
