2003 Horse - "Equis Del Sol (Don Drumm Studios colt)"
Artwork Description: Zosia Ciesla, artist and employee of Don Drumms Studios, spearheaded the design of a colt that includes a replica of the flowing rays and easygoing smile of Don Drumm’s signature pewter sun. The familiar face is constructed from layers of lightweight polymers that are painted silver to closely resemble pewter. Equis del Sol, which translates to “Horse of the Sun” in Latin, accurately describes this magnificent creation. Born in Southern Poland, Ciesla immigrated to the United States in 1979. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts in sculpture from Kent State University. She has been an active artist for the past 20 years and has worked in galleries for 18 years. In 1959, Drumm pioneered the use of cast aluminum as an artistic medium and also creates with all-weathering steel, pewter and cement. Drumm’s talents enhance the walls and environments of private homes, public parks, businesses, learning institutions, museums and city skylines throughout the country. G.P. Zampelli Construction Company sponsored the colt.
