Artwork Description:
As a cancer survivor and heart transplant recipient, Kathleen “Boo” Whitmer would not be where she is today without her intense spirit of hope. Visually representing hope within the design of her colt, she used soothing pastels with green, the color of hope, and daffodils, the flower of hope. Her inspirational colt is perched in front of a detailed painting featuring flowers, trees, grassy hills, horses, vistas and a distant horizon, which all blend together to complete Whitmer’s visual representation of hope. Whitmer serves as the artist-in-residence at Old Trail School in Bath Township and is a retired teacher and professor. She is the author of two books, Green Rubber Boots: A Joyful Journey to Wellness and For the Asking: A Joyful Journey to Peace. The colt’s sponsor, Summa Health Care System, is an integrated health care system including Akron City Hospital, St. Thomas Medical Center, Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital and SummaCare health plan.
