Artwork Description:
The beginning of May contained one of the saddest days in the history of Elizabeth Price Elementary School. The students reluctantly said their goodbyes to one of the most popular faces around their school – the goggle-adorned face of Sea-More the Sea Horse. Students donned silk-screened T-shirts bearing the face of Sea-More. Sea-More, who began as a plain, fiberglass horse, blossomed in the hands of 21 students, who lovingly designed and decorated Sea-More to make him an authentic explorer of the abyss. Once Sea-More neared completion, each student in the school received the opportunity to add their own creation to his saddle. Fifth-graders molded a small sea sculpture to accompany Sea-More, and younger students created clay squares of sea-inspired images that were placed in a mosaic pattern over the saddle. During the year, he made several social appearances at community events, including an April school board meeting, an episode of Fox 8’s “Kickin’ it with Kenny” show and a school-wide ice cream social. Art teacher Jennifer Schulman guided the students through the entire project. North Akron Savings Bank sponsored their creation.
