2003 Horse - "Buckeye, The All-American Quarter Horse"
Artwork Description: The Ghent Academy for Boys Parents sponsored a colt to allow students to tap into their creativity, which released an imaginative idea combining a patriotic horse with an enlarged, shiny quarter. Buckeye boasts an Ohio-shaped marking on its forehead, layers of brown, white and black tissue paper, liquid starch, polyurethane and actual horse hair. The boys placed Buckeye through the center of a foam quarter, creating an appropriate play on the concept of “heads or tails.” The Ghent Academy for Boys is a private elementary school that focuses on helping each student achieve his individual potential.
