2003 Horse - "Dragondream"

Artwork Description:
In the time before written history, dragons were enlightened messengers who brought laughter and healing to children with their mere presence. Dark clouds settled over the earth, blocking the sun and spreading fear and dismay. The dragons tried to blow them away but failed. Their frustration soon turned to a raging anger that exploded into scorching fire.

After the dragons saw the destruction they had caused, they turned to the heavens crying out in pain and remorse. To restore peace, the dragons would have to give up their magnificent wings and agree to serve all mankind once again. The dragons complied, falling into a deep sleep and awakening to see that their wings were gone, transforming them into horses.

At night, these horses still dream the dragondream of times when they soared high in the heavens and brought light and healing. They remember the nature of dragons, retaining their mighty hearts and the love they held for mankind. When they run and feel the wind, they feel as if they are flying again. But mostly, they delight in bringing laughter and joy to the children who ride on the powerful backs of these mighty and magnificent creatures and are healed in their hearts and souls.

This legendary tale served as the inspiration for a colt sponsored by Jay and Susan Glauberman and decorated by Irene Sukle.
