Artwork Description:
Grant Wood’s famous American Gothic painting guided the paintbrushes of Wooster High School students, who incorporated his style into their colt’s design. Advanced painting students Whitney Giauque, Emily Gralinski and Jamie Sayaseng adorned the colt with Wayne County landmarks, nature scenes and highways. Wooster art teacher, Lisa Wiles, pitched in, remembering a positive personal experience at Children’s Hospital. Wiles’ daughter spent part of her first year of life at Children’s, where she underwent exploratory surgery on a facial growth. More than 23 years after her daughter’s birth, Wiles still remembers the caring Children’s staff and how kindly they handled her daughter’s surgery. Seaman Corporation sponsored the colt.
