Katelyn Diemand-Yauman is decorating the Doggie Brigade colt. She is an art honor student at West Geauga High School. Since 1992, Children's Doggie Brigade has brought joy and comfort to sick kids. Each week, members of Children's Child Life staff write up a list of patients whose doctors have OK'd a dog visit. Now, some 60 canines, and one pony, Petie, tour the hallways with their handler, visit patients in their room and stop in activity rooms to see children who are well enough to be out of bed. All dogs undergo a veterinary exam and a behavioral screen to ensure their suitability for the program. Once accepted into the brigade, both dogs and owners alike earn volunteer credit for their weekly or biweekly visits to the hospital. Children's is also proud to have the nation's only therapy pony, Petie, who visits children in their rooms and makes frequent guest appearances in the community. Petie is also Horse of a Different Color's official chair horse of the event.

The Clarke Automotive Group is sponsoring "Shimmer," designed and decorated by the students at Old Trail School in Bath. Shimmer is covered in metal pieces and beading and every student in the school participated in the colt's design and completion.

The Cleveland Brown's colt was designed and decorated by Sylvia Albertelli Masek from Lakewood, Ohio. The design incorporates the dreams of a boy who wants to play football.

Dave Towell Cadillac-Saab of Akron is the sponsor for St. Sebastian Elementary School. The students chose a firefighter theme and decorated the colt like a Dalmatian, incorporating historic photos of Akron firemen from the 1800's.

Field Middle School's Student Council sponsored a colt for the students who designed and decorated "Every Child is a Bright Shining Star."

Firebaugh Farms, located in Wooster, Ohio, sponsored a colt for the 4-H Stars, Stripes and Clovers Club. "Jesse's Country Spring" spring colt in real life is modeled after a real horse owned by the sponsor. The horse is named after a 2-year-old Children's patient with leukemia.

Dennis A. Gaishauser, D.D.S. and his wife Kay, thought that decorating a colt would be a great project for their daughters' school, Sharon Elementary in Sharon Center, Ohio. Having seen similar projects in Toronto, Buffalo and Cleveland, the Gaishausers knew how exciting and wonderful the finished project could be. Dr. Deb Waldron graciously agreed to take on the challenge; the finished colt, "Dreamchaser," represents artwork from many of their daughters' schoolmates.

"Buckeye, the All American Quarter Horse" is themed for patriotism and fun - and a heads or tails concept using a giant quarter to divide the colt in half. Ghent Academy for Boys is located in Copley, Ohio.

Serpentini Chevrolet, owned by Bob and Kathy Serpentini, who sponsored 4 colts personally and through their dealerships, is the sponsor of Mina, decorated by St. Hilary School in Fairlawn, Ohio.

Bob and Kathy Serpentini have sponsored four colts personally, and through their dealerships, including this one from St. Vincent/St. Mary High School. It features signatures of the championship basketball team, including Lebron James. The other colt, called Horseplay, is decorated in a Yankees baseball theme, and features signatures of current players and hall-of-famers.

The community spirit theme was carried out by incorporating scenes from the Orrville community tied together with railroad tracks - an integral part of the development of rural Ohio.

Chevy North Jackson, Chevy Northfield, Pontiac Canton, Chevy North Canton and Chrysler/Plymouth and Dodge in Akron have all joined hands to celebrate the great things Akron Children's Hospital is doing. The Spitzer organization will be celebrating its 100th birthday next year and has always been a true believer that people must always come first. We show that belief by supporting our communities. For over 60 years, 1590-AM, WAKR has been Akron Radio Leader. We are the News Authority and home to the Indians, Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes in Akron.
